Organizational carbon footprint calculation of Kutxabank

Identified need

In the context of the requirements established by Law 11/2018 on non-financial information and diversity, Kutxabank has been reporting its greenhouse gas emissions since 2018.

With the aim of consolidating a representative and automated reporting process, this year, in addition to updating the report and incorporating new subsidiaries, Kutxabank required the integration of activity data collection, calculation and reporting into a single information management system.

Kutxabank also identified the need to update and harmonise the data collection process used to calculate emissions associated with employee commuting, covering both central services and its subsidiaries.

Organizational carbon footprint calculation of Kutxabank

Client profile

Kutxabank is one of the leading financial groups in northern Spain, with a strong position in retail banking and a clear long-term focus. The Group integrates financial prudence, social commitment and sustainability criteria into its business model, promoting responsible management that contributes to the economic development of the regions in which it operates.

Methodological approach and work process

At Baisma, we supported Kutxabank in defining and updating the forms used to collect information from the Group’s subsidiaries. We also worked on standardising data collection on employee commuting, covering both subsidiaries and central offices.

We calculated the carbon footprint in accordance with UNE-EN ISO 14064-1:2019, maintaining methodological consistency with previous reporting years. Throughout the project, we integrated the data collection and calculation process into Kutxabank’s existing management and reporting tool, adapting it to the software’s specific formats and requirements.

Finally, we provided technical assistance during the audit process to support verification of the carbon footprint calculation.

Results and value generated

The project enabled Kutxabank not only to meet the reporting requirements of the NFIS, but also to optimise the corporate carbon footprint calculation process for future reporting cycles by integrating it into its management system and ensuring full traceability of the information.
